Colonel Pramote Prom-in, a spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command's forward command, offered condolences yesterday for the death of a villager and wounds incurred by another during a pre-dawn shooting attack near the Ban Tha Moung Mosque in

He condemned the 4.55am attack as an inhumane act against people during the holy month of Ramadan and urged them to stand up to the violence. He said initial inspection showed that Uma Salaemae, the 66-year-old father of an imam, sustained fatal injuries when a gunman allegedly shot at deputy village headman Roning Tohuamuang, 47, who was fleeing to the mosque.

He said the authorities were investigating the case to bring wrongdoers to justice, while officials were also sent to discuss the situation with religious leaders to try to prevent any misunderstanding.
