Passport issuance services have returned to normality with about 7,000 passports issued a day, Consular Department director-general Thongchai Chasawath said yesterday.

He said the department was now able to handle passport applications just as it was before the “Bangkok shutdown” protest.
When that protest campaign started on January 13, the department shut down the server at its head office for security reasons.
The server shutdown had affected online passport services and caused backlogs of applications.
Last week, Consular Department officials thus restarted the computer server to support the online services.
Thongchai said the passport-issuance services were now available at 17 branches around the country.
For extra convenience, applicants for passports can also receive service at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
