New traffic campaign officially launched
The Bangkok Metropolitan Police on Monday officially kicked off its new campaign against traffic congestion, with the launch of a symbolic motorcade.
From today, traffic police will start towing away vehicles violating no-parking zones on 10 major Bangkok roads. Under the campaign, police would no longer lock a wheel of vehicles violating the no-parking zones but would tow them to nearby police stations. The owners of the vehicles would be fined Bt500 and would be required to pay Bt500 for towing fee and Bt200 a day if they fail to show up to take back the vehicles from the police stations.
The ten roads are Lard Prao, Rama IV, Sukhumvit, Ratchadapisek, Ramkhamhaeng, Phaholyothin, Kaset Nawamin, Sathorn, Rajadamneon, Phetchaburi and Vibhavadi-Rangsit.
