Nation University brings English language courses to Myanmar
The Nation University has launched English-language teaching courses in Yangon and plans to expand its services to include Japanese and Chinese as well as other subjects. The courses began over the weekend for two groups of students - General English and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Preparation. The courses are taught by experienced native English speaking teachers attached to Nation University in Bangkok.
"Myanmar has started political and economic reforms, and education is vital to the success of the country," Thepchai Yong, Nation Group's editor-in-chief, said.
Dr Thein Myint, managing director of Eleven Media, explained the fluency in the English language is key to Myanmar's human resource development. Nation Group has a series of media co-operation with Eleven Media in Myanmar.
Nation University plans to expand the services to other languages as well as provide professional courses including media and tourism.
Though the older generation had access to education in English, the language has not featured on the education agenda in the past few decades. After Myanmar opened its doors to the rest of the world recently, an influx of foreign investors has jump-started the need for quality staff with fluency in the language.
