The National Health Security Office (NHSO) is pushing for a special fund to provide long-term care for the elderly as well as people with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

NHSO deputy secretary-general Prateep Dhanakijcharoen said he expects this fund to give birth to day-care centres or home-based care services for all the above target groups.
“Once the fund is established, such services should become available within three years,” he said Thursday.
He said the NHSO is going to present this idea to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) as Thailand needs to prepare itself for its transition into an ageing society.
Prateep said both the central government and local administrative bodies should contribute to this fund.
