Mountain run-off causes flooding in Narathiwat
Three districts in Narathiwat were hit by flooding after three days of continuous heavy rain resulted in strong run-off from nearby mountains, a source said yesterday.
The run-off flowed into the Sungai-Kolok River, one of the major rivers in the South, causing it to overflow and flood homes on both banks of the river in Sungai Kolok, Tak Bai and Wang districts.Six communities in Sungai Kolok municipality were under 20-40 centimetres of water. The same scenario occurred in Tak Bai, where residents evacuated to high ground.
His Majesty the King yesterday gave 400 flood-relief bags to 1,800 residents of nine communities in Tak Bai via the Rajaprachanukroh Foundation under Royal Patronage.
