More women are making it into senior management roles than at any time since 2010, filling 24 per cent of such posts - up from 21 per cent last year and 20 per cent in 2011, according to a global survey for professional services firm Grant Thornton's "International Business Report".

However, progress is slower in the Group of Seven developed countries, where economic performances have been stuttering, than in the high-growth economies of Asia.

The G7 economies are at bottom of the league table with just 21 per cent of senior roles occupied by women. This compares with 28 per cent in the BRIC economies (Brazil, Russia, India and China), 32 per cent in Southeast Asia, and 40 per cent in the Baltic states, the IBR data showed.
