Kuala Lumpur - The Malaysian jetliner missing for more than two weeks was carrying wooden pallets similar to objects spotted by an Australian search aircraft, a senior Malaysian official said Monday.

"We can confirm that MH370 was carrying wooden pallets. However, there is as yet no evidence that these are related to the wooden pallets reportedly sighted in the Australian search area, Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.

The Australians spotted pallets and other debris Saturday in the southern Indian Ocean area where a search is being conducted for the Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared March 8 with 239 people aboard. The pallets have not yet been retrieved.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said in a statement that "the crew on board the Orion reported seeing two objects - the first a grey or green circular object and the second an orange rectangular object."

Hishammudin earlier said that Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott had called Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak concerning the objects.

He told reporters at a daily press briefing in Kuala Lumpur that search vessel HMAS Success was "in the vicinity and it is possible that the objects could be received within the next few hours, or by tomorrow morning at the latest."
