Police yesterday arrested 50 illegal migrant workers from Cambodia at a department-store construction site in Roi Et.
They included five children.
One of the Cambodians, identified only as Li Charn, said a Thai agent contacted him for this job at a market in Prachin Buri.
“I have been working at this construction site for two months. The agent demands a Bt2,000 commission,” he said.
Pol Colonel Kittirat Noiphonthong, superintendent of Muang Roi Et Police Station and leader of the raid, said all the Cambodians would be deported.
“The smuggling of alien workers may lead to many other problems including human trafficking,” he said.
