Hotel dumps shark-fin soup

Dusit Thani Bangkok announced yesterday that shark-fin soup would no longer be available at any of its eight dining establishments. Removal of the dish emphasises the luxurious brand's environmental drive.



Shark fin soup is a highly prized dish in Chinese cuisine, but the brutal way in which the fins are sourced – they are cut from sharks which are dumped back in the ocean alive but eventually die – has created an increasing imbalance in the ocean as shark numbers dwindle. Many shark species are now endangered.
