Narathiwat in the deep South, and Phatthalung, just north of it, have been hit by flash floods, which inundated several homes and vast areas of farmland. A large number of residents have also been forced to relocate.

Five of Narathiwat's 13 districts were flooded yesterday. Sungai Kolok was the hardest hit with water a metre-and-a-half deep. More than 8,000 households in the five districts have been affected, while mudslides in Chanae district blocked 10 roads on Thursday night. The roads were cleared and ready for use as of yesterday.

In Phatthalung, three districts were flooded and 500 households affected. Kong Ra district was the worst hit with 1.5 metres of water. Residents in one village had to move to higher ground late last night as flash floods poured in.

Heavy rain continued yesterday, prompting authorities to issue warnings about flash floods in several unspecified areas.
