A total of 4,678 punters and 258 bookies were arrested during the FIFA World Cup 2014 tournament from June 12 to July 13, Pol Lt-General Anand Srihirun, director of the Royal Thai Police football gambling suppression centre, said yesterday.

Police also closed 2,223 websites that were set up for football betting, and were taking steps to track down the 83 remaining sites, he added.
