Hail-hit Lamphun districts declared disaster zones
Lamphun officials were dispatched yesterday to aid residents affected by Sunday's hailstorm.
Lamphun deputy governor Navin Sintusa-ard said the tangerine-sized hailstones punctured roofs and ruined farm crops in Pa Sang, Muang, Ban Thi and Mae Tha districts, which would be declared disaster zones. Mae Tha was the hardest hit, with 7,717 residents in 2,332 households affected. At least 100,000 roof tiles are needed to repair the damage. Cleanup is expected to take about a week because the supply of roof tiles is limited.
