Girl, 7, among three shot dead in Narathiwat

Three people were killed including a seven-year-old girl when suspected insurgents opened fire at a villager's pick-up with an AKA rifle yesterday afternoon in Narathiwat's Ra Ngae district, Ra Ngae police superintendent Pol Colonel Jiradech Phrasawang said.

Following the shooting report at 4pm, police found the bullet-ridden truck in the middle of a Ban Sipo Moo 3 road in Chalerm sub-district. The body of Ismae Doloh, 35, was found with many bullet wounds in the driver's seat while the young girl's body with one gunshot wound to the chest was in the cab seat.

Police found the body of Assanai Jehsoh, 32, with two gunshot wounds in the back in a roadside bush. Police collected a total of 16 spent bullets from the scene.

Police inquiries found the three victims returned from running an errand in the village and were heading home in Muang district when they slowed to take a curve. The assailants, hiding behind roadside trees, sprayed bullets at the vehicle, killing the driver and the girl. They then chased Assanai, who tried to flee. They suspected the attack was part of the insurgency in the region.
