Mae Sai border market in Chiang Rai reopened on Monday as water from the major flash flooding in the area began to recede.

Water levels fell after the downpours stopped and the water was released to Ruek and Mekong rivers, leaving behind mud and soil. Vendors quickly started cleaning the area so that their shops could reopen today.

However, Chiang Rai authorities are still on alert and have warned residents, particularly those living along the river, to prepare for possible evacuation as more rain is expected
