Two trawlers were impounded for fishing in prohibited waters west of Koh Mai Pai in Krabi's Muang district yesterday morning.

Police arrested 12 crew members, four of whom were Thai and eight from Myanmar, and seized the boats, fishing tools and some 550 kilograms of fish, Charoenchai Srisuwan, chief of Krabi Andaman Sea Fisheries Management Centre (Bai Mai Keaw), said.
Phuket-native Teerasak Rattanapan, who was the captain of one of the boats, reportedly said fishing in the prohibited area was worth the risk of arrest because there was a lot of fish.
