The peat-swamp forest fire in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district, which has been raging for three days, has engulfed 100 rai (16 hectares) of rubber plantation in a hillside area, but the authorities have not yet sent in firefighters to put out the blaze.

The fire has also sent a swathe of white smoke over a 25-kilometre radius, according to a team of journalists on paramotors. The fire, which started on Sunday, is believed to have stemmed from people’s attempts to clear the land for rubber- and palm-tree growing.
