Fire damage heavy for trading firm
The owner of Rattanakorn Trading Co said yesterday that his shop in South Pattaya suffered Bt40 million worth of damage from Tuesday afternoon's blaze but was covered by only Bt10 million in fire insurance.
The company shop's three chambers, a warehouse behind the building and two chambers of the Charoenpong Construction shop next door went up in flames.
While Chon Buri forensic police collected evidence yesterday from the scene to determine the cause of the blaze, Paiboon Reungrattanakorn told police that he was attending to customers when he heard someone scream "fire" from the direction of the warehouse.
He rushed to inspect what happened. The warehouse was not on fire but he heard sparks shooting from a kitchen outside the warehouse, so he went back to continue his business.
He was later alerted by workers that the warehouse was burning and saw that it was true, so he and his workers scrambled to save what they could from the warehouse and building.
