A defence volunteer was shot dead in a rubber plantation in Pattani's Yarang district yesterday, while a soldier was injured when a motorcycle bomb blew up in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district.
After receiving a homicide report in Prachan sub-district at 9.40am, Pattani’s Yarang police, local leaders and security volunteers found the body of defence volunteer Muhammad-apidin Baneng, 26, with two gunshots to the head and collected two spent AKA rifle bullets as evidence.
Police are investigating the motive.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old soldier was wounded by a motorcycle bomb in Narathiwat’s Tak Bai district at 10am yesterday when insurgents triggered a 10-kilogram bomb as a patrol truck drove past.
Private Jirasak Rungsamrit, who had been sitting in the rear, sustained injuries to his left leg, while the truck’s windshield shattered, a rear wheel exploded and the right-hand side of the body was riddled with bomb shrapnel.
