Diploma programme urged for private teachers

The Private Education Council of Thailand has urged the Private Education Commission to introduce a graduate diploma in the teaching profession programme, Education Ministry permanent secretary Suthasri Wongsaman said yesterday.

The council said the programme would enable many private schoolteachers without education degrees to obtain teaching licences, while also letting those who graduated in other fields have a chance to be teachers, Suthasri said.

The council also wants permission for private schools to hold a 20-hour Thai language and culture training for foreign teachers and more participation by private schoolteachers in state-run teacher training.
