National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered authorities in charge of social psychology to tackle "root causes" that have undermined and weakened Thai society, a source said yesterday.

Prayuth issued the instruction at the Army’s headquarters during a routine NCPO meeting. He cited erosion of public faith in Buddhist monks and Buddhism as what he believed as one of the root causes.
He said the Religious Affairs Department and the National Office of Buddhism must crack down on monks with inappropriate behaviour to boost public faith in the religion.
