All fishing trawlers in Samut Sakhon will be inspected and each crew member's age recorded in a move to prevent child labour after officials found a boy believed to be as young as 15 working on a boat in a random inspection.

It is also believed that a large number of illegal migrants work in the fishery sector in the seaside province. At present, 548 owners of fishing trawlers are members of fishing associations and 1,480 boats have been registered. Authorities have said inspections will soon be conducted on an unspecified number of trawlers after a crewmember working on a boat called Choke Chaophraya 1 was found to be very small physically but was specified as an adult. The owner of the boat will be charged if tests show that he is under 18.
