Buddhists plan prayers
The vast majority of Buddhists surveyed in an Abac opinion poll aim to say New Year countdown prayers at home or at a temple, and nearly one-third of those who plan to do so said they would pray for calm and reconciliation in the country.
Of 2,016 respondents living in Bangkok and four large provinces surveyed between December 2 and 13, 88 per cent said they would say prayers along with making merit and taking part in charity activities with their families. Of those surveyed, 44 per cent took part in New Year countdown prayers in previous years, and two-thirds of them did so with their families. Asked what they would wish for, 84 per cent wanted happiness for their families, while 69 per cent wanted good health, 57 per cent success and 40 per cent wealth. Some 29 per cent wanted calm and reconciliation to return to the country.
