The BMA also instructed all 50 district offices to gather information on canal encroachment and report back before July 15 to make way for the city and agencies’ efforts to solve this chronic problem.
As of yesterday, 2,597 kilometres of pipes had been cleaned compared with the target of 3,834km, while water hyacinths were removed from 986km of waterways out of the target of 1,225km.
After the purchase of 2 million sandbags, the city will have 5.7 millionThe city also installed 1,013 pumps and kept some 500 pumps as backups.
Deputy city clerk Sanya Cheenimit said City Hall recently proposed to the National Council for Peace and Order the dredging of nine canals to prevent floodingThey were the Lat Phrao, Premprachakorn, Bang Khen, Samwa, Lat Bua Khao Temple, Bang Sue, Prawet Burirom, Phra Khanong and Praya Ratchamontri canals.
