Anti-graft body to review police stations
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will look into a complaint involving two senior Democrat Party members, Abhisit Vejjajiva and Suthep Thaugsuban, over their role in the Bt5.8-billion project to build 396 police stations.
"Our preliminary probe aims to determine whether there are grounds for the complaint and whether this case falls in the NACC's jurisdiction," commissioner Klanarong Chantik said. The NACC would consider the issue again when the probe results emerge, he said.
Klanarong was speaking after the NACC convened a meeting to decide on an investigation report forwarded by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).
The DSI alleges that Abhisit and his former deputy, MP Suthep, violated the law governing the bidding for state projects when they served as prime minister and deputy prime minister respectively.
