Police yesterday arrested a 17-year-old man for allegedly causing an explosion at a music concert in Nakhon Ratchasima's Chok Chai district on Tuesday night.

The blast resulted in nine people being injured, including the suspect himself, who suffered serious hand and chest injuries.

After interrogating the suspect in hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima police commander Pol Maj-General Pongdech Phrommijit said the man had reportedly confessed to carrying 25 ping-pong bombs while going to the concert with friends, and to igniting one bomb in order to hurl it at a rival group of youths. However, it exploded while he was still holding it.

The explosion subsequently caused another 20 of the devices to explode, resulting in many injuries.
