Yes sir! That's my baby!
Meeting rigorous US military requirement, you almost expect the tough Dell Latitude E6430S to stand up and salute
The new Dell Latitude E6430S is not an ultrabook but it's powerful and tough and also meets US MIL 810G military requirements.
It has a beautiful 14.1-inch anti-glare LED-backlit display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution in a Tri-Metal 13.3-inch chassis. Its LCD back is made of anodised aluminium, giving it a sleek look.
Since it is designed to be tough, it is quite bulky for a notebook, ranging in thickness from 26.8 to 30.9 mm.
The toughness comes from the tri-metal chassis, magnesium alloy wrapped corners and a brushed aluminium and a powder-coated base.
Dell says it's gone through MIL-STD-810G testing, proving that the E6430s is able to withstand the levels of vibrations and shock that it may encounter in its intended environment.
Its hard drive is protected with a rubber isolator, shielding it against vibration. If the E6430S is dropped, the Dell Fast-Response Free Fall Sensor functions to protect your hard drive.
Dell also provides Dell Data Protection/Access application to allow you to password protect the notebook and the content on the hard drive against data thieves. You can even lock your hard drive with your fingerprint, using an integrated fingerprint reader.
The E6430S also meets the Energy Star 5.2 environment standard and its USB 3.0 port can also charge your USB-rechargeable device when the notebook is in the power-saving sleep mode.
Another plus factor is that the E6430S' battery comes with 3-year warranty.
I liked the large keyboard, which makes for easy typing. The keyboard is also backlit, which is very handy is low-light environments. Navigation can be handled both by the trackstick in the middle of keyboard and trackstick buttons as well as the touchpad with buttons.
And if you need to use devices that are connected via old-type ports, such as PS2 and serial, you have the option to buy a docking station to attach to the E6430S.
