Vasan was moved to write a poem about the flooding.

Navin Rawanchaikul won a Silpathorn Award for his art and so did Vasan Sitthiket.

Navin's home and studio were damaged in the flooding and so were Vasan's.

In Nakhon Sawan, Vasan escaped the total washout that wrecked a bunch of Navin's paintings in Chiang Mai, managing to float most of his artworks to safety, albeit gummed up with mould.

Vasan knows he was lucky, and certainly far luckier than the neighbours he's seen perched on the roofs of their submerged homes.

He reckons this catastrophe could have been avoided if certain politicians hadn't screwed up. So Vasan has written a poem called "Flooding 2554", which name-drops Thaksin Shinawatra and Banharn Silpa-archa, among others.

Well, at least it might help some people shake off their stress.

Fury is free

Several shopping malls have provided free parking during the flood crisis, but not all of them can because they only have enough room for customers.

Zeer Rangsit has been condemned online for charging Bt1,300 per car long-term, but it never said it was on the free-parking list.

All branches of The Mall have free parking - except for Bang Khae, which has one free floor but sparked fury with signs elsewhere demanding Bt250 per day.

We're guessing the free floor gets full fast, so the signs are meant to discourage people from taking advantage, not cashing in on disaster.

Soggy talent

The flooding has postponed auditions for the second season of "Thailand's Got Talent". The revised dates are October 22 and 23 for the Northeast, October 28 to 30 in Bangkok, November 5 and 6 in the South and November 11 and 12 in Chiang Mai.

But hosts Krit Sriphumseth and Ketusepswasdi "Na Nake" Palakawong Na Ayudhaya promise the show will (eventually) be a lot of fun.

Pornchita "Benz" Na Songkla and Pinyo Rutham are still judges, but a sharp-tongued replacement is needed for veteran actor Nirut Sirichanya, who doesn't think it's the right gig for his particular talent.
