LG's Optimus VU is great for keeping tabs on your personal life while on the go

LG Optimus VU (P895) is an Android-based smartphone that features a 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio display and a fast 1.5 GHz quad core CPU.

Unlike other smartphones which use a 16:9 aspect ratio display, VU uses a 4:3 aspect ratio screen, making snapshots taken in the same ratio fit the screen.

With this ratio, VU looks like a small pocketbook with the size of 139.6 x 90.4 x 8.5 mm. It sits perfectly in your shirt pocket with just the top peeking out. With the provided black case with foldable cover, the VU looks really like a book - especially when you open the cover.

The 5-inch TFT IPS LCD with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution is beautiful and is easy and comfortable for viewing. Reading emails, web pages and Facebook updates was comfortable on the screen during the test.

VU has good performance as it is powered by a 1.5 GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor and is equipped with 1 GB RAM and 32 GB storage without a slot for storage expansion.

It has an 8 megapixel camera with good quality for a mobile and is capable of shooting 1080p video.

VU runs on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The test found that the phone has good performance. The touch screen and menus were very responsive and scrolling of the screen could be done fast and smooth. Video clips ran fast and smooth.

I tested VU on True Move H's 850MHz HSPA+ 3G connection. I smoothly checked my emails, updated my Facebook status and read web pages and watched YouTube clips on the go without problem. I took photos with VU and posted to my Instagram page smoothly and checked in with Foursquare without problem.

LG provides a stylus for using with VU but I found that the pen tip was rather sticky and I am not sure it was because of the screen-protecting film or not. Anyway, the stylus performed well. It also has a Quick memo hot key on top that shows the Quick memo on top of the screen for you to start writing right away.

VU's music player is very good. It supports playing by folder and it has built-in Dolby Mobile technology to enhance listening experience. I enjoyed listening to music with it, using my Sony premium in-ear headphones.

The VU has a large 2,080 mAh Li-in battery. With one full charge, I could comfortably survive a day.

Among its advanced connectivity features, VU supports NFC connection and Wi-Fi Direction function.

LG Optimus VU has a suggested retail price of Bt18,900.
