Want to save money? Then check out the bonus packages that come with True's new digital satellite receiver
TRUE DIGITAL HD1 HD-SK1000S is a satellite receiver that can receive high-definition channels and which, thanks to several bonus packages, is excellent value for money.
The HD-SK1000S uses DVB-S2 tuner capable of receiving both KU-band and C-band satellite signals. The receiver is compact and light with a footprint of only 176 x 133 x 30mm.
The best value is obtained with a C-band satellite dish because the HD-SK1000S will receive more than 200 free-to-air channels from Thaicom satellite in C-band format, including eight free-to-air HD channels. If you use it with a KU band satellite dish, you receive 88 free channels.
If you already have a satellite dish, whether C-band or KU-band, it will be easy and convenient to set up the receiver. If not, you will need to call a technician to install the dish first.
I found it easy to set up the HD-SK1000S for the best. I merely connected my KU-band dish satellite cable to the back of the receiver, plugged its power adapter to the wall and connected the provided HDMI cable to the TV, and the receiver started up and prompted me to select the language for the menu. The receiver scanned all available KU band channels.
To activate the smartcard of the receiver, I used my TrueMove H phone to dial a special code, added the smartcard number and the system activated the card soon after, allowing the free channels to be watched. Users of other mobile phone operators will need to send the smartcard number as an SMS to a specific phone number.
Once the smartcard is activated, TrueVisions allows you to watch nine of its channels free for six months. The value of the viewing of these nine channels for six months is Bt1,620, the cable provider says. The nine channels are True Sport HD2, True Sport 2, True Sport 7, True Asian HD, True Spark, True Explore 2, True Film HD, True Film Asia and True Asian Series.
The package comes with a TrueMove H Digital HD prepaid SIM. You must use the SIM to dial a special number with the serial number of the smartcard and True Visions will allow you to watch three more channels – True Thai Film, True X-Zyte and True Movie Hits – free of charge for 12 months. According to TrueVisions, the value of the viewing these three channels for a year is Bt3,600.
The SIM can be later used to buy more packages from TrueVisions and the value of the purchase package can be used to make phone calls or use Internet airtime.
Moreover, the package comes with a Bt500 voucher towards the cost of buying a mobile phone from TrueMove H. Prices for these start at just Bt799, meaning that if you opt for the cheapest, it will only cost you an additional Bt299. Several other models that can be purchased with the coupon can be checked at Truebox.truecorp.co.th or at True shops.
I found that the True Digital HD1 offered great reception on HD channels, especially from True Sport HD2 and True Film HD. True Sport HD2 screens a range of interesting programmes including UEFA Champions League matches and Thai Premiere League matches.
True Film HD plays a range of blockbusters around the clock basis and gives the option of watching in Thai or English.
As would be expected, the free-to-air channels including the digital terrestrial TV channels are also available though resolution is reduced to standard definition to save the bandwidth of the KU band satellite.
If you use the C-band satellite dish, you can watch Thairath HD, Workpoint TV, and Thai TV HD in high definition, However, even in standard definition, the digital TV channels look fine.
The receiver can also receive the popular Fox Thai channel and its several hit series.
The True Digital HD1 HD-SK1000S can be purchased at all True shops, 7-Eleven and satellite shops at nationwide for Bt1,690.
