Horror flick 'Laddaland' tops the prize list at the Kom Chad Luek awards with four wins

Top-grossing horror film “Laddaland” was the biggest winner at this year’s Kom Chad Luek Awards, picking up the prizes for Best Picture, Best Director for Sophon Sakdaphiset, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Sutadta Udomsil. Nopachai Jayanama won Best Actor for his role as a hitman who saw the world upside down in Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s “Headshot”.

Newcomer Paowalee Pornpimon went home with the Best Actress trophy for her portrayal of late luk thung queen Pumpuang Duangjan in “Pumpuang” with her screen husband Nattawut Sakidjai picking up Best Supporting Actor as well as Best Actor in the TV drama award category for his role in Channel 3’s “Khoo Duad”.

“Roy Mai” (“The Silk Trace”), a TV horror drama about the silk fabric won Best Drama and Chudapha Janthaket went home with Best Supporting Actress for her role as the ghost E Mei. Applause and cheers rang out from the crowd as Araya A Hargate went on stage to receive the Best Actress award for “Dok Som See Thong”, which had most of Thailand glued to their small screens last year.

In the music category, Slot Machine won both Best Album of the Year and Best Pop Group Performance while veteran crooner Charas Fuangarom won Best Song of the Year for “Nam Prik Tuay Kao”.

Best Vocal Male Artist in the luk thung category went to Suthiraj ‘Kung Wongthevan and Best luk thung Vocal Female Artist was Cream for her ditty “Song Rum Nueng”. Best Song of the Year was Maithai Jaitawan’s “Mon Pleng Luk Isaan”.

In the Popular Vote Award category, viewers voted hot couple Nadech Kukimiya and Yaya Urasaya Sperband as the most Popular Actor and Actress. The Most Popular Pop Singer was Sukrit “Bie” Wisetkaew and while the Most Popular Luk Thung Singer was Academy Fantasia alumnus Supanat “Aof” Chalermchaijaroenkit.

 “30 Kamlung Jaew”, the romantic drama about a woman at 30 searching for true love with Patcharapha “Um” Chaichuea in the lead role won the popular vote for Thai Film and the prize for the Most Popular TV drama went to “Tur Kab Khao Lae Rak Khong Rao” starring Arak “Pe” Amornsupasiri and Khemanit “Pancake” Jamikorn.

Held by Kom Chad Luek newspaper, 37 awards in five categories are presented for outstanding entertainers from the film, TV drama, luk thung and pop music fields, as well as popular votes.
