Hanoi?Vietnam will meet with representatives of North Korea ahead of the scheduled region-wide security meeting planned for Friday.
An informed source said that Vietnam, as the Asean chair, wants to ensure North Korea that it is not the platform to criticise its diplomatic activities. "It is the forum which North Korea can use to clarify and provide correct information," said the source.
The attack on a South Korean warship by North Korea in March has been widely reported and was the subject of condemnation the world over including the UN Securit Council. The issue is one of several security topics that would be discussed.
North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun will attend the security dialogue along with foreign ministers from other 26 countries including US State Secretary Hilary Clinton.
