The two teachers were married couples teaching at two schools in Tambon Manang Tayo in Muang district.
The husband, Wilas Khongkham, 54, was killed while the wife, Phetprom, 53, was severely injured.
Police said the two were riding their motorcycle to the Tanyongmus Market when two men on a motorcycle caught up with them and the pillion rider opened fire at them with an MP16 assault rifle at 6:10 am.
