The Criminal Court Monday postponed the examination of evidence for the Bangkok Bank of Commerce (BBC) embezzlement case to 9am on February 22 because the defendant's list of witnesses is not ready yet. However, the public prosecutor already has 114 witnesses ready to testify.
Indian-born financier Rakesh Saxena and then BBC president Krirkkiat Jalichandra, were accused of unlawfully endorsing loans worth more than Bt1.66 billion in 1995 to City Trading in violation of the Securities and Exchange Act. Though Krirkkiat and others were jailed, Saxena fled to Canada in 1996 and was only brought back last year to face trial.
The court has instructed the public prosecutors to submit their witnesses' testimonies so the defence lawyer can see which person needs to be interviewed. In addition, a translated copy of the witness testimonies would be given to Saxena a week before the evidence is examined.
