Red shirts in Chiang Mai threaten lengthy protests

Hundreds of red shirts on Friday carried on protesting for a second day in Chiang Mai to demand the removal of Provincial Police Region 5 commissioner Lt General Somkid Boonthanom.
Rally organiser Phetchawat Watanapongsirikul said the protest would last as long as it takes to remove Somkid.
"If our demand is not met, then the crowds of red shirts would surge and seize the police regional headquarters," he said.
Phetchawat called for prompt attention from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and acting national police chief General Patheep Tanprasert.
