Prince Mahidol Award winner urges hospitals to contact patients with SMS

Medical-service providers should get in touch with people via their cell phones, the 2009 Prince Mahidol Award winner Professor Anne Mills said Thursday.
She said this means of communications were very effective because cell phones were now with most people all the time.
"Medical-service providers, state or private, should send text messages to the patients' cell phones about their appointments with doctors and new communicable diseases," Mills said.
She pointed out that health providers in the United Kingdom had already started using this technology in reaching out to the patients.
"Such tactic helps," she said.
