Dow Jones ends down

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index dropped 45.05, or 0.4 percent, to close at 10,099.14, after being down more than 100 points earlier

Public holidays in the U.S. and much of Asia kept trading thin. Focus was on the euro zone where European finance ministers will meet this Tuesday to discuss measures to help Greece resolve its huge debts.

The euro fell against the U.S. dollar, hovering close to nine-month lows as analysts project uncertainty could keep the U.S. dollar weak.

European stock markets edged off earlier highs at closing amid lack of clarity over euro zone support for Greece.

Crude oil settled at USD74.13 a barrel and gold dropped to USD1,090.
