The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 40.43 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 10,309.24. The S&P 500 added 0.4 percent and the Nasdaq advanced 0.6 percent.
U.S. housing data rebounded more strongly than expected to the highest in six months in January.
Industrial output rose 0.9 in January, also exceeding analyst expectations.
Crude oil closed near USD77 on thin trading volume.
