The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office Wednesday agreed to proceed with the charge against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was accused of filing false assets statement.
The panel of 9 judges agreed to proceed with the case filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against Thaksin.
The court scheduled the first hearing on July 29 at 1 pm.
The NACC filed the suit with the court, alleging that Thaksin failed to declare his shares held by his children. The NACC took the action after the Supreme Court's Criminal Divsiion for Holders of Political Office ruled to seize Thaksin's Bt40 billion of assets after convicting him of having abused his power to amass the assets.
The court ruled that the assets belonged to Thaksin but he hid them in the names of his children and other family members. As a result, the NACC charged that Thaksin falsified his financial statements upon taking and leaving office as the prime minister.
