AIT becomes int'l organization

The 50-year-old Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is now the country's newest international organization, first in the field of higher learning education.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya this morning signed the new AIT Charter transforming one of the region's leading science, technological and management institution into an international organization.

He said Thailand takes great pride in being the host country of AIT, which has for half a century contributed to the country's growth and development. The charter is open for signature from states and international organizations interested in AIT membership.

With the new status, AIT will be able to operate more effectively and to better serve 2,200 full time students coming from all over Asian region. It can also enhance cooperation with other new partners and stake-holders in higher learning, research and human resource developments.
