Battery maker expects sales boost with new model

Thai Storage Battery yesterday launched a sealed maintenancefree (SMF) battery, aiming to boost revenue by 10 per cent this year to Bt4.5 billion.

Veerawat Korphaibool, director of Thai Storage Battery and senior vice president of 3K Products, said the company is certain that it will reach the revenue target, due to the improving economic situation and the development of the SMF model.

SMF is expected to sell 50,000 units per month - 20,000 units in the local market and 30,000 overseas.

Although this product costs 20 per cent more than a regular battery, it does not require any servicing for up to two years.

The company will pay a dividend at the rate of 30 per cent of net profit this year, he said.

There is demand for SMF batteries in developed countries, he said. The company spent Bt600 million on the SMF production lines.

In the second quarter, the company reported revenue of Bt1.16 billion, up from Bt896.16 million during the same quarter last year, and net profit of Bt16.94 million.

During the fist half, the company posted revenue of Bt2.31 billion, rising from Bt1.67 billion in the same half last year.
