Wichean pledges to serve public, monarchy

In his inauguration ceremony as the national police chief on Tuesday, General Wichean Potephosree vowed to devote his attention to the public and the monarchy.

" I do not fear the jinx of my office because I intend to serve the public and not personal interests," he said, shrugging off the fact that several of his predecessors were ousted before completing their term.

He said his top priorities included safeguarding the monarchy, ensuring the job performance of the police service, and developing the police forces to become worthy of the public trust.

By the Royal command, Wichean was appointed to the position of police commissioner general effective on September 2.

Today saw acting national police chief General Patheep Tanprasert handed over the job to Wichean.

Patheep has been the caretaker chief for about a year and he will retire at the end of this month in his position of police inspector general.
