Paul Smith dresses kids warmly for winter but keeps things playful
The playful, childlike charm of Sir Paul Smith’s autumnwinter “Junior” line for children was unveiled in fun and mischievous style at Siam Paragon last week.
On the catwalk for the fashion show at the Paul Smith boutique were youngsters Achariya “Ellie” Nitipon, Kunjaree “Bella” Jirapaet, Nitchda “Seiya” and Pitcha “Miya” Thongchua, Achirawat “AChi” Massayavanich, Nop “Latte” Skaorattananon, and Chak “Chaosamut” Wattanasin.
The label’s first collection for kids in 10 years features Smith’s trademark fabrics and classic British style, but in vibrant colours with toying touches.
Boys can look jaunty in striped and floralprint shirts and padded jackets, and quirky tees with bold graphics, as well as corduroy blazers, khaki parkas and knits of luxurious cashmere.
For girls there are tinted roseprint silk dresses and cute Fair Isle cardigans. Longsleeved Tshirts of soft jersey are topped with gorgeous angora wool smocks, and there are all sorts of stripes to inject some fun.
The clothes are designed for children newly born to age 14.
Adding to the show’s entertaining appeal was a short film starring Smith and some stars in the making, including rock star Noel Gallagher’s daughter Anais and singermodel Sophie Ellis Bextor’s little boy Sonny.

Paul Smith also has a store at the Emporium.

Grownups, too!
Sir Paul Smith was browsing one day at London’s Portobello Market and came across a riding jacket that once belonged to Lady Leigh. It’s the inspiration for his women’s line for the coming cool season.
Lady Leigh gave Smith ideas for a new take on English country dressing " feminine and poetic but with contrasting masculine elements, suitable for the hunt, and using heavy Donegal wool.
You can glimpse the wallpaper of a stately home, trompe l’oeil prints, corset detailing, buttoned gloves, ripped fishnet and waistcinching leather belts.
Guys will want to play the Bohemian gentleman in attire inspired by Venice and by Australian musician Warren Ellis " Nick Cave’s partner in the Bad Seeds.
Think doublebreasted jackets and overcoats atop casual, tapered trousers and jersey vests. There are even capes! It’s all quite dark, in red, purple, teal, Prussian blue and aubergine.
Paul Smith doesn’t forget the footwear, either " flats, heels, boots and sneakers " or accessories, as in belts, key rings, umbrellas, scarves, hats, gloves and bags.
Bags? You’ll want a large “hobo”.
