Peter Beets, Saskia Laroo, Renske Taminiau, Alexander Beets and more than 100 Thai musicians are taking part in the Samui International Jazz Music Festival 2010. The free concerts will take place all over the island, from Bophut to Chaweng to Lamai beaches, from September 24 to 30. Replenishing Thailand's mangroves
Bangkok Airways staff, led by the airline's executive vice president Pradit Theekakul, centre, together with the locals in Trat province, recently planted trees along the eastern coastline recently. Part of the Mangrove Project, the activity is to increase the oxygen level, improve the environment and to preserve Thailand's eastern coastline of Thailand. A run in paradise
Swap your beach slippers for running shoes if you're heading to Samui on September 18 as that's when the southern island is hosting the Samui Island Marathon 2010. Billed as a tropical paradise, with coconut-palms, white beaches and friendly islanders, Koh Samui offers a terrific 42.195- kilometre run for brave marathoners. The winner will leave the island with Bt250,000 (US$7,900) in cash. The entry fee is Bt700 each for applications made before September 17. On-site application on the day is Bt800 a pop.
Bangkok nights … on foot
Bangkok, Southeast Asia's unofficial nightlife capital, will host the Charity Midnight Run 2010 on October 9, and the good news is that you don't have to be the fastest to have fun. The annual "Charity Midnight Run" will kick off at midnight at Amari Watergate Hotel on Phetchaburi Road and continue through the city's streets. Contestants can choose between six and 12 kilometres at a fee of Bt300 and Bt1,000. Proceeds go to underprivileged students and HIV-positive children.
