Gunfight kills two



A fierce gunfight erupted in Yala yesterday morning during a police raid for the arrest of a wanted suspect. Two people were killed in the battle.

Muhammad Ameen Sarai, 27, who was found dead at the scene, was wanted for allegedly staging a bomb attack in the deep South.

While, Sergeant Sayan Thitiprasart sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital.

Sayan was at the scene with some 30 officials to arrest Ameen after being tipped off that the suspect was hiding in a house in Ban Bado, Mueang Yala district.

The suspect did not surrender upon seeing the security officials, but opened fire.

The ensuring gunfight claimed his life and Sayan's. Also injured were two privates, Suradej Yeemah and Ruslan Teh.
