NBC to pursue aggressive growth in Q4

The continuing growth of the economy has prompted Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to draw up an aggressive business plan, which includes expanding its satellite channels, producing new TV programmes and form?ing business alliances with potential partners, in the fourth quarter of this year.

NBC foresees more business opportunities arising with the brighter economic forecast. New TV programmes will be created to serve every free tele?vision channel, as the private sector has increased advertise?ment spending for the rest of the year. The budget had been squeezed in the first half because of worries about the state of the economy.

Company president Adisak Limprungpatanakij said yes?terday that NBC would not only expand its satellite TV channels but would form alliances to pro?duce new TV programmes.

The company's business focuses on being a content provider by broadcasting via cable television, free TV and satellite TV.

The company is also plan?ning to form business coopera?tion with tarad.com to create e-commerce in the fourth quar?ter of this year.

With those business plans in place, NBC's net profit this year is expected to exceed last year's Bt69 million.

The improved results are in line with predictions amid the growing advertisement indus?try as private companies launch new commercial campaigns during the third and fourth quarters.

"Many companies plan to launch marketing campaigns and advertisements in the rest of the year as they foresee the good results continuing next year because of the economic situation and political stabili?ty," Adisak said.

Adisak revealed a plan to create e-commerce with www.tarad.com, whose busi?ness has captured the domestic and overseas markets. The strategy will be supported by NBC's strength in the variety of media and customers. The serv?ice is expected to be imple?mented in the last quarter this year.

NBC is also scheduled to launch the second-phase busi?ness plan for Mango TV, in which 10 business alliances will join to produce TV pro?grammes. The alliances include leading magazines Lisa, GM, Bioscope, and Gen-X Academy. It is also considering producing reality shows.

Adisak added that the com?pany would produce some TV programmes for Channel 9 and Channel 11.

Adisak forecast further dou?ble-digit growth in advertising on free TV and Nation Channel after jumping 38 per cent in the first half of this year.

The company reported a net profit of Bt52 million, up 205 per cent in the first half of this year compared with Bt17 mil?lion in the same period last year.

In addition, the company's revenue is expected to achieve its target to grow by 30 per cent. Its revenue grew 28 per cent to Bt274 million year on year in the first half of 2010.
