Montenegro has informed Thailand that it will take legal action against convicted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra if Interpol put Thaksin on its wanted list, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said Monday.
"Montenegro Foreign Minister (Milan Rocen) had informed me twice in his letters that the action against Khun Thaksin will depend on the Interpol" Kasit said.
Montenegro has given citizenship to Thaksin who is investing in a hotel business in Budva city of Montenegro.
Rocen's statements are in response to Kasit's two letters in which Kasit informed Rocen about political situation in Thailand and the Thai court's verdicts against Thaksin.
As of now, Interpol has not yet put Thaksin's name on its wanted list, reportedly because it believed the rulings on Thaksin's corruption and abuse of power charges are politically motivated.
Rocen also informed Kasit in the letters that the granting of citizenship and passport to Thaksin is his government's policies to do so for those who invested in Montenegro. However the country has no intention to intervene in Thailand's internal politics.
Kasit is in Podgorica capital for his first two-day official visit to the country, ending Tuesday.
In a joint press conference, Rocen reiterated that his government did not feel any pressure that it gave Thaksin a citizenship and passport while he is wanted in Thailand on corruption and abuse of power charges.
By giving Thaksin's citizenship, his country has no intention by all means to meddle into Thailand's political matters.
Thaksin got the citizenship because he applied for it and the granting is implemented according to Montenegro's laws.
Rocen said that he hoped that Montenegro and friend like Thailand could solve the matter (concerning Thaksin) in peaceful and meaningful ways.
Speaking at the same press conference, Kasit said that he believed Thaksin is already informed by the Montenegro government that he must not try abuse the privileges he earned from Montenegro government.
In addition, Thaksin should not try to influence the cooperations between the countries.
Thailand is now working on to put Thaksin on the wanted list of Interpol, Kasit said.
