Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya will meet today with high-ranking Montenegrin offi-cials, including the president and prime minister, in a bid to boost bilateral cooperation and relations.
Thaksin was awarded citi-zenship in the tiny state reportedly because he was investing in the construction of a hotel in the resort of Budva.
The Abhisit government has been appealing to countries that give Thaksin shelter, espe-cially those that have given him nationality and special treatment, to consider the severity of his actions in Thailand.
Today, Kasit will meet with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovice, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Economic Minister Branko Vujovic.
Thailand wishes to increase its currently small trade vol-ume with Montenegro. It enjoys a trade surplus with an export volume of US$3.2 mil-lion (Bt100.2 million) - mainly computers, spare parts and accessories - over imports of US$0.01 million per year.
Montenegro relies on steel, processed agriculture products and tourism. In 2009, some 63 Montenegrins visited Thailand. The number of Thais visiting the former Yugoslav state is not known.
Neither country has an embassy with the other. They deal through the Montenegrin embassy in Beijing.
