Chronology
June 30: Outgoing office holder Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka sends a letter to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, asking him to seek legal advice from the Council of State on her status.
July 5: Jaruvan turns 65 years old.
July 21: Jaruvan sends a letter to the legal advisory team of Senate Speaker Prasobsuk Boondej to consult about her status. Chairman of the legal team Senator Paiboon Nititawan replies the same day suggesting that Jaruvan remains the auditor-general following announcement 29 of the Council for Democratic Reform (CDR). The order states an auditor-general should carry on in the job even after the end of their term until a replacement has been appointed.
July 30: Jaruvan asks the Council of State to withdraw her request for legal advice.
August 2: Acting Auditor-General Pisit Leelavachiropas circulates a letter to inform all agencies under the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) that he is acting in the position until the Council of State has advice on Jaruvan's status.
August 6: The Council of State sends a letter replying to the auditor-general (without indicating name) that Jaruvan no longer has authority to be auditor-general as she has reached the mandatory retirement age of 65. The government's legal arm sends another letter to Jaruvan saying she cannot withdraw her request for advice as her status has already been ruled on.
August 10: The Cabinet acknowledges the Council of State's advice that Jaruvan is out of office.
August 16: Senator Ruangkrai Leekitwattana submits a complaint to the Ombudsman asking them to forward Jaruvan's status to the Constitution Court.
August 18: Jaruvan signs a memo revoking her previous appointment of Pisit, her deputy, as acting auditor-general.
August 23: Pisit circulates a letter to Office of the Auditor-General officials notifying that Jaruvan is retired and no longer had a mandate at the office, citing the Council of State's ruling.
Senator Ruangkrai submits a complaint to the Ombudsman asking the issue of Jaruvan's status be forwarded to the Administrative Court.
