Nong Bible a star who's ready to shine

Praise has been deservedly showered on new national hero Nong Bible, the five-year-old Phupha Rattanarungrueng, and now a wonderful reward too for all his effort.

Nong Bible - whose sang to earn money to pay off his mother's medical bills until she finally succumbed to cancer - has just been signed by TV studio Kantana for six years.

He'll start out with a role in the series "Dao Din", scheduled to begin shooting next month. Nong Bible will play Boonthing, the vanished heir to a fortune who ends up in a likay troupe.

The studio is also providing acting classes and paying for a regular education for the youngster.

Kindest of all, Kantana has left Nong Bible's contract wide open - he can take any other job that's offered him.

Nuclear testing

Actress Cherman "Ploy" Boonyasak has been testing the new social media's ability to withstand ferocious winds.

Diana "Di" Jongjintanakarn started it by very publicly announcing she's still in touch via e-mail with her ex-boyfriend Narwin "Tar" Yaowapolakul.

He's with Ploy now, so cue the fireworks.

Ploy used her Facebook page to launch a warning shot across Di's bows. "I don't know what you want na ka," she typed, fuming that Di had invaded personal turf.

"Don't tell me you didn't, then what dog told the media and now it's news na ka."

Ploy later admitted that playing the canine card was a bit harsh, but she pointed out that Facebook is, uh, personal turf.

The Facebook front cooled off, but now everyone's watching what Ploy says on Twitter. Her "Welcome a new heroine to showbiz" tweet was automatically interpreted to mean Di, cast as the pitiably vulnerable soap-opera stereotype.

Actually, Ploy explained, "I was referring to Lin Ping [the panda cub]. I saw her on TV and thought, 'Gosh she has her own channel!'"

Ploy has apparently been chastised by the power of Twitbook. One recent tweet: "Two kilos of mangosteens cost Bt50."
